Adolescents, Teens & Young Adults

Counseling teenagers can be difficult when traditional talk therapy may serve as a barrier in communication. A great deal of resistance may exist when working with teens because of their internal and external developmental transition from child to adult. In order to combat this, we use a variety of creative techniques that promote both verbal and nonverbal expression in a way that is therapeutic rather than stigmatizing. We can help you with:

  • Adolescents and Early Adult Focused Therapy
  • Teen Violence and Social Adjustment Issues
  • Self-Esteem, Self-Value, Appreciation & Adjustment Issues
  • Academic Underachievement
  • Bullying and/or Oppression
  • Defiance & Peer Relationships

Addiction, Dependencies & Substance Abuse

The next step is finding a treatment program that can help restore their overall health, well-being and happiness. Remember: there is no such thing as a “one-size-fits-all” approach to addiction & substance recovery. Whichever treatment path you choose, be sure that we have everything you need to help you achieve a successful recovery. Let us help you with:

  • Cultural Issues Around Substance & Alcohol Use
  • Spiritual Based Recovery & Relapse Prevention
  • Technology Abuse / Dependence
  • Drugs, Alcohol, Gambling
  • Emotional Regulation Especially Associated with Social Media and Other Issues

Conflict Resolution/Anger Management

A lot of us believe that anger is a bad emotion. In fact, it’s neither good or bad and, like any emotion, anger conveys a message. Are we ready to listen? To quote Aristotle “Anyone can be angry, that is easy. But to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time for the right reason and in the right way, this is not easy”. The way in which we express our feelings and the behavior we use to express ourselves will define our ability to stay in control, or totally lose control. Like everything in life, how we react and respond to situations is always in our control. Out of control anger hurts our physical and mental health, as well as our relationships with others. We can help you with conflict resolutions and anger management. We specialize in:

  • Coping Skills
  • Communicating more effectively
  • Assertive communication providing a path to conflict resolution

Mood Disorders

Illness under mood disorders include: major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder (mania – euphoric, hyperactive, over inflated ego, unrealistic optimism), persistent depressive disorder (long lasting low grade depression), cyclothymia (a mild form of bipolar disorder), and SAD (seasonal affective disorder). If you have a mood disorder, your general emotional state or mood is distorted or inconsistent with your circumstances and interferes with your ability to function. You may be extremely sad, empty or irritable (depressed), or you may have periods of depression alternating with being excessively happy (mania). Anxiety disorders can also affect your mood and often occur along with depression. Mood disorders may increase your risk of suicide. Let us help you with:

  • Self-Esteem, Self-Value, Appreciation & Adjustment Issues
  • Suicidal Ideation / Self-Harming
  • Stress
  • Depression, Anxiety, Depression, Co-Dependence, Bipolar Disorder
  • Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EDMR)

Life Transitions

Change, even positive change, can be stressful, but change happens often in life. Speaking to a therapist can ease the adjustment to certain life transitions. The goal of life transition counseling is to help individuals get through these emotionally taxing life changes using healthy coping mechanisms. We can help people feel prepared for future transitions in their lives, especially through:

  • Health & Disability Issues
  • Marriage
  • Grief & Loss
  • “Empty Nest” Syndrome

Individual Intensive Sessions

Intensives, lasting between 4, 6 and 8 hours.

Working privately with a therapist for 4-6 hours will produce the same benefit as a weekend individual workshop or a number of monthly therapy sessions. An intensive session can create the same dramatic and long-lasting shifts within yourself and your relationships.  The tools and insights you learn from an intensive can be applied in daily life immediately.

CRSH therapists have helped many to improve their communication skills and find joy.

LGBTQIA+

The stigma and discrimination LGBTQIA+ individuals often face can be a serious impediment to their well-being.

We offer affirmative therapy for our LGBTQIA+ clients. This is an approach to therapy that embraces a positive view of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQIA+) identities and relationships, and addresses the negative influences that homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism have on the lives of LGBTQIA+ clients. This type of psychotherapy validates and advocates for the needs of sexual and gender minority clients. Our therapists use verbal and nonverbal means to demonstrate an affirming stance toward LGBTQIA+ clients. We can help empower you.

  • Lesbian & Gay Affirmative Therapy
  • Self-Esteem, Self-Value, Appreciation & Adjustment Issues
  • Sexual Orientation/Gender Attraction Issue
  • Gender dysphoria
  • Sexual identity issues
  • Discrimination & Stigma

When you’ve experienced trauma, it can be excruciating. You may feel at a loss as to how to process what you’ve been through or start to heal. Even if you feel lost, there’s hope and treatment that can help you. The purpose of trauma-focused therapy is to offer skills and strategies to assist you in better understanding, coping with, processing emotions and memories tied to traumatic experiences, with the end goal of enabling you to create a healthier and more adaptive meaning of the experience that took place in your life.

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
